Ancient well outside Prideaux Place

Ancient well outside Prideaux Place by Judith Martinez, Acrylic, 10in x 8in

Acrylic on Canvas Board 10 in x 8 in On Hold

This is the second in a small series of "architectural" subjects taken from my photos of two trips to England.  I am enjoying working with the planes and depths, using tones to show them.  Working in near-monochrome is a challenge that I seem to enjoy !  It was raining gently the day that Marcia and I walked up the street leading out of Padstow to Prideaux Place on the hill above the town.  We were hoping to see the deer in the deer park, which is actually on the other side of this wall.  (We only saw a manger...)  One assumes that the pump handle has been removed to prevent theft--unless the theft happened first.  I still haven't decided why it was necessary to put the pump in the arched niche, but it certainly makes for an attractive setting.  I love Cornwall !
