Aowd Yarron in acrylics

Aowd Yarron in acrylics by Judith Martinez, Acrylic, 12in x 9in

Acrylic on Paper 12 in x 9 in Private Collection

Well, Bob's Private Collection has really grown this past week !  It all started with Purple Fish, who spawned Goldie, Frills, Wili Wili, & Kili Kili, and last, but not least,  Aowd Yarron,  aka old heron.  (This is a dialect term from north of London, circa 1953--and is also Bob's usual name for them.)  Great discussions have, and will continue to, ensue about where to hang all of these so that he can see  and enjoy them.  Just rotating one or two is not going to do it this time !

I have really enjoyed this burst of reasonably successful paintings !  Come to think of it, the subject matter is of no consequence for that to happen, is it ?   Success is usually quite acceptable.

All were painted using diluted versions of heavy-body acrylics, mostly Golden brand, that were already on my palette.  Skin-flint that I am, I refuse to throw away perfectly good paint !  Hence the purple fish, and the rest is history.  My choice of subjects was based on their unusual fins and shapes;  basic trout types need not apply.  Having to compete with a fluffy-tailed, purple-spotted, tubby--with a big bright eye, required some distinctive features.  I have heavily shortened the two with Hawaiian names; I didn't even really consider Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, the state fish--no frills !  Unusual markings and colours, though, so perhaps in a future mad fit of painting fish he will be included.
