"Frilly" Floppsie hat in Wool
Wool Available
This (now rather small) little charmer has a colourful history, having been several different sizes and shapes. It is made from the simplest genuine Black Sheep wool--no dye-- and had its own approach to the felting and shaping processes. Resistance comes to mind. Maybe just plain stubborn ! As a result the first attempt was very large. I re-wet things and began again, trying to get a flat top crown despite my owning only a rounded shaper. This time the crown was, indeed, flat, but much too shallow (and still far too large). I tried to tighten the crown AND make it taller, but met with extreme resistance. A brief period of despair set in, requiring brain stimulation in the form of chocolate, that did result in a possible solution. No luck. Back to the drawing board we go, coming up with a variation of the last effort that actually did work ! I was able to gather the base of the crown, resulting in the now rather small version, but gaining those delightful ripples all around the brim. It is crying for a black lace and cerise bouquet to pin on it.
This one will likely remain a sample, hoping to entice others with those ripples. One may order this in many other colours as well as in specific sizes. Shall we make you one ?
"Frilly" has gone to Vancouver to Lotus Millinery for an encounter with THE STEAMER and a larger collection of hat blocks for a new look !
