Still Life "A"
Acrylic on Paper 9 in x 6 in Available
Still Life "A" is just my very uninspired effort from one session of the class that I lead. Fortunately the others did not catch my doldrums and produced some good work. It has hung around the house all summer, reappearing now and then to remind me that a bit more enthusiasm might be helpful. When it popped out of a folder again two days ago, something said to me that I should turn it into a "pen and ink, with acrylics" piece. I really like that style, but have never actually tried it before. I do suspect that it is more traditional to do the pen first, but who is to know if I don't tell them ? I amazed myself by being genuinely spontaneous with the sepia Pitt Pen that I chose, sort-of outlining the basic forms of the rather blurry and dull painting. It is still dull (I haven't changed the colours at all) but lost a lot of the blurriness to the dashing pen. You DO have to get fairly close to it to see all of the lines, which I am hoping adds to the interest. I certainly like it a lot better than I did !
Should I change the name to something more inspired than Still Life "A" ? Not being a big fan of still life works of my own, I think the A was to encourage me to paint at least a few more. This style may be the answer to my reluctance to tackle multiple blossoms.
