10 Mini Paintings

This set of miniatures is for sale, either as the set or singly. It is unfortunate that the few vertical ones had to be painted horizontally ! I forget about such niceties since I used to write upside-down, and still prefer to write, or even paint, with the paper turned 90 degrees, so writing goes from top to bottom. Oh, yes, I AM a lefty and have always been just a tad odd.....
From the top left down, then top to bottom on the right, you see:
Mini-Daffodil, a smaller version of last year's favourite floral painting. That dark background really DOES make this painting, regardless of size !
Pink Tulips, using a change in colour from red to a mauvey-pink (actually Permanet Rose). I hadn't painted anything recently that had these deeply-turned edges and feared that I had forgotten the technique. Being lazy at times, I decided to try to think my way through it, and there they are again !
My little "Gone Fishing" seems to lack contrast, a potential problem when I am trying to paint in a low-key. I may yet go back and try to correct some of the deficiencies that are now visible to me, since I no longer have my nose in the middle of it !
Snowy Mountains was supposed to be a copy of an earlier late-summer mountain scene, but the sky colour had ideas of its own and just would not do what I wanted. With the addition of some white it would do for a wintry evening sky, and here is the result. I do like these tiny landscapes.
Another tiny landscape, Amber Waves is one of those that just seem to happen. Something about rural landscapes lives in my brain at all times ! I love the serenity of them.
No, Don't ! is a copy of a 9 x 12 inch that I painted last week. Some lose something in the reduction to mini size. The pup's expression in this doesn't express quite enough horror !
There a Quack is just plain fun ! I have a photo with six of these guys in it; I only managed to get these four onto my paper. If I use my 6 x 12 in paper there will be space for everyone. So inquisitive, aren't they ?
Not ME is the mini version of and 8 x 10 inch one from last week. That cat has the grumpiest expression ever; his little brother is cheerier ! Here I have successfully used some "soft edges", a watercolour technique that does not always turn out well here, as the paint will dry too quickly and crisp divisions between the colours result, instead.
Let's Play ! is an individual, not a miniaturization of a larger painting. I wonder how well it will turn out when I do paint a larger one ? I usually go from large to small..
Abstract Hoar Frost is my first successful abstract. I tried another one, of huge birds and a sailboat, that was just a bad painting, not an abstract. This is actually too small to paint the roundness of the branches covered in about 1 1/2 inches of heavy hoar frost that we have had several times this winter. It even has to be shovelled, like snow, when it falls off ! It is so beautiful in the sunshine that I can even forgive it for making all that work.
Every picture tells a story !
