Lake Sunset--Winter

I found that after having finished the summer version of this scene that a snowy version was stuck in my head.  The only way to get away from that, was to paint it.  The relief has been amazingly brief, as I now have two abstracts in there, instead !

Snow scenes, despite the agony of our 6 months of snow on the ground here, are favourites of mine.  This one is unusually "warm" for me, although I do specialise in burnt sienna accents to cheer things up, along with those brilliant blue skies one sees.  Here there is a lot more colour and shadowing in the snow, instead of having it be so pristinely white.  Interestingly, I still see white snow.  I still need lots of practise to learn to paint these "Group of Seven" trees.  They seem so simplified and straight-forward that "anyone should be able to paint those".  Well, this just confirms my uniqueness, as I struggle and wash off and try again and nearly despair.  Only the hope that you won't realise quite what they are really intended to look like, and just see trees, let's me keep going.  The ages old struggle between the inner visions and the brush's determination strikes again !
